ES Windows impact garage doors fall into two main series lines: the ES-4000 and ES-5000. The difference matters more than most homeowners realize. The ES-4000 uses a standard 2-inch thick panel with a roll-formed steel skin and a foam core. The ES-5000 steps up to a 2 1/4-inch panel with a denser polyurethane core and heavier gauge end stiles. You cannot swap a 4000 series panel onto a 5000 series track without modifying the hinge mounts, and even then the door won’t balance properly.

To identify what you have, look at the sticker on the inside edge of the top panel. ES Windows prints the series number, the panel dimensions, and the date code right on that label. If the sticker is gone, measure the panel thickness with a tape measure, not by eye. For OEM versus aftermarket: ES Windows hardware is well made but priced at a premium, and for certain components like nylon rollers and bottom seals, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a Florida-rated supplier matches the OEM spec and costs 30 to 40 percent less. For structural pieces like end stiles, hinges, and struts, we order OEM. That’s not a margin decision. This is a track alignment problem, usually from the house settling or the track brackets loosening over years of thermal expansion and contraction. It gets worse in July and August, when the metal track expands and the door has no room to travel straight.
