Therma-Tru Window Installation: The Hollywood Owner’s Guide

We install and replace Therma-Tru window units throughout Hollywood, FL, with most installations running between $480 and $1,150 per window depending on size, series, and whether the frame needs rebuilding. The install itself is usually a single visit, and we keep common Therma-Tru hardware and replacement sash components on the truck so we are not making a second trip for a missing part. Most Hollywood homeowners call us after a window finally refuses to latch, a sash drops hard when opened, or the frame has swollen shut in the summer humidity. The window still looks fine from the curb, but it has stopped doing its job.

TruePane Windows & Doors is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Therma-Tru, and we do not represent ourselves as a factory outlet. What we are is a local Hollywood shop that has been measuring, setting, and troubleshooting windows in South Broward for decades, and we know which Therma-Tru parts hold up in this climate and which ones do not.

Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru is best known for entry doors, but their window lines show up in a lot of Hollywood homes, particularly the SlimLine and Classic-Craft window units sold as door sidelites and transoms. The compatibility gotcha we see most often is this: a Therma-Tru door sidelite is not the same as a standard Therma-Tru window. The sidelite frame is engineered to mate with the door jamb, and the weatherstripping profile is different. If you buy a generic replacement sash thinking it will drop into a Therma-Tru sidelite frame, it will likely bind at the corners or leave a quarter-inch gap at the meeting rail.

To identify your unit, look for the AAMA label on the frame or the edge of the sash. It will list the series code and the glass type. If the label is gone, we measure the rough opening, the visible glass size, and the frame depth at the sill, then match the replacement to the original Therma-Tru spec. For older Therma-Tru units that are out of production, we quote quality aftermarket equivalents side by side with any remaining OEM stock so you see exactly what you are buying and what the warranty covers. Some homeowners in Hollywood assume OEM is always the right call. It is not, especially for glass packages where a modern low-E equivalent will outperform a 20-year-old factory unit in this sun.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Window Installation Is Failing

  • Sash drops when you open it and will not stay up. The balance system has worn out or the pivot shoes have cracked. On Therma-Tru units from the early 2000s, the pivot shoes were a known weak point, and we replace them regularly in Hollywood.
  • The window will not latch cleanly, or you have to lift the sash to get the lock to engage. The frame has settled or the sash has warped. Wood-frame Therma-Tru units in Florida humidity will move, and once the reveal is off by more than an eighth of an inch, the latch will never seat right.
  • You feel air movement around the frame even with the window closed and locked. The weatherstripping has compressed or the frame seal has failed. This is a bigger deal in Hollywood than it is up north, because we run air conditioning ten months a year and a draft window is a direct energy leak.
  • Condensation between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit seal has failed. Once moisture gets between the panes, the unit cannot be field-repaired. It must be replaced. In Hollywood, seal failure happens faster than the national average because the constant sun heats the glass and stresses the sealant at the edges.
  • The window frame is soft at the sill or corners. Water has been getting in, usually from failed caulking or a clogged weep system. Wood rot at the sill is the one that turns a $500 sash replacement into a $900 frame rebuild, and we see it most often on north-facing windows where the frame never dries out after a rain.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Hollywood, a Therma-Tru window or sidelite installation with TruePane runs between $480 and $1,150 per unit. At the low end, you are replacing a sash in an existing, sound frame. At the high end, you are rebuilding a rotted sill or reframing a sidelite that has shifted against the door jamb. The price includes the replacement sash or unit, all labor, the hardware and weatherstripping, disposal of the old window, and a written line-item quote before any work starts. There are no surprise charges on the final bill. Every Therma-Tru install we do in Hollywood carries our Done Right Promise, backed by The Keystone Standard. We register both manufacturer warranty layers in writing before the truck leaves your driveway, and the workmanship is guaranteed for 90 days with no paperwork fights and no arguing.

Scope of Work Typical Range (Hollywood, FL)
Sash or glass unit replacement, existing frame $480-$650
Full window replacement, standard size $700-$950
Sidelite or transom replacement with frame work $800-$1,150
Sill or frame repair added to any replacement +$150-$300

In the Liberia neighborhood and the older sections of Hollywood Lakes, we regularly quote frame repair as part of the job because the original frames predate modern flashing standards and the sill corners are the first thing to go. A homeowner who has not looked closely in ten years is usually surprised by the quote. But measuring it right and setting it square is the job. The price honest the first time is still cheaper than a second repair a year later.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can check yourself without any risk. A lock that will not close can sometimes be fixed by cleaning the track and checking that the keepers are aligned. Loose caulking at the exterior of the flange is a straightforward patch with the right sealant. You can also note your AAMA label details so you have the series information ready when you call for a price.

What you should not do is attempt to remove a Therma-Tru sash with spring-loaded balances or a damaged frame. These are tensioned systems, and a balance under load can release faster than a hand can react. A sidelite frame that has shifted against a door is a structural correction, not a swap. And if you have water damage at the sill, what you cannot see behind the trim will likely change the whole scope of the repair. Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed, and they measure every opening twice before ordering anything. Dale Kessler grew up in the Liberia neighborhood of Hollywood, and his rule has not changed in three decades: measure it right, set it square, and the paperwork takes care of itself. Call us at (863) 334-2933 and we will send someone who measures before they quote.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."

EEleanor G.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."

MMarie S.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."
