Therma-Tru Door Installation: The Hollywood Owner’s Guide

Therma-Tru door installation in Hollywood typically runs $450-$1,200 for a standard entry or patio door replacement, with most jobs completed in a single visit. We keep common Therma-Tru hinges, thresholds, sweep kits, and weatherseal sets on our trucks so a failing component doesn’t leave you waiting on a parts order. The way most Hollywood homeowners find us is simple: the door they bought twelve years ago has started dragging on the threshold in the summer humidity, or the sweep has crusted over from salt air and they can feel daylight at the bottom corner. That door isn’t finished, it’s failed, and the fix is more than a shim job.

Before we get to pricing and parts, one thing up front: TruePane Windows & Doors is an independent installer, not a Therma-Tru dealer or affiliate. We source genuine Therma-Tru parts or quality equivalents when they make sense, and we stand behind the work on our own paper. Dale Kessler founded this company on a rule that still governs every install: measure it right, set it square, and the paperwork takes care of itself.

Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru builds three main residential lines: the Classic-Craft and Fiber-Classic entry doors, the Smooth-Star series, and the Pulse patio door system. Each has its own quirks when it comes to parts. Classic-Craft doors use a fiberglass skin over a foam core, and the hinge prep is factory-routed, meaning replacement hinges need to match the factory mortise depth or the slab hangs proud of the frame. Smooth-Star is more forgiving on hinge work but the sill cap and sweep are molded as a system, so mixing brands there causes the exact bind-and-rub problem most owners call us about.

The identification step matters more than people expect. Therma-Tru stamps a manufacturing code on the hinge edge of the slab, near the bottom. If that label is painted over or faded, the next identifier is the sill profile: Classic-Craft uses a deeper, stepped sill, while Smooth-Star sits on a lower profile that’s more prone to water intrusion if the drain channels are clogged with South Florida sand and debris. When the code is gone and the sill has been weathered, we measure the slab thickness and hinge spacing and match from there.

On OEM versus aftermarket: for hinges, we use genuine Therma-Tru hardware because the geometry matters. For thresholds and sweeps, quality aftermarket parts from Endura or similar suppliers often outperform the original in our climate, especially on the sweep side where UV hardening is the first failure point. We’ll show you both on paper and let you choose.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Door Installation Is Failing

  • You feel a draft at the bottom corner even when the door is latched. This is almost always a hardened or torn sweep, and it’s the most common salt-air failure in Hollywood. The rubber compound Therma-Tru uses loses flexibility after six to eight years of South Florida exposure, and once it’s rigid it stops sealing.
  • The door scrapes the threshold when you open it in the afternoon but clears it in the morning. This is thermal movement in the frame, and it tells you the frame wasn’t anchored correctly or the original shim pack has compressed. In Hollywood specifically, we see this on west-facing entries where the afternoon sun loads the frame unevenly.
  • The door rubs at the strike plate and you have to lift the handle to lock. Hinge wear, plain and simple. Fiberglass slabs are heavy, and those top hinges carry more weight than they’re rated for once the door is ten years in. Replacing the top hinge before it pulls the screws out of the frame saves the entire door.
  • Water stains appear on the interior floor after a hard rain. The sill cap’s drain channels are clogged or the cap-to-frame seal has failed. In Hollywood, we get horizontal rain, and a compromised sill will let water through every time. This one needs addressing because the damage underneath is invisible until it’s expensive.
  • The door will not hold adjustment, or someone has already driven longer screws into the frame and stripped them. The frame jamb is compromised, either from moisture or from screw fatigue. New hinges won’t fix a jamb that won’t hold a screw, and that’s the point where the repair becomes an installation job.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Hollywood, most Therma-Tru door installation work we do falls into three lines: hinge replacement runs $180-$340 installed, a full threshold and sweep replacement runs $320-$550, and a complete slab swap with rehang runs $700-$1,200 depending on slab size and whether you’re staying with the same frame. Those numbers include labor, parts, disposal of the old material, and a written line-item quote before we start.

What drives the range is the condition of the existing frame. If the jambs are sound and the door simply needs new hardware and seals, you’re at the low end. If the sill deck is rotted or the framing has shifted, we’re rebuilding, and that’s the high end. We don’t touch the job until you’ve seen the price on paper and signed off, and we don’t add change orders once work starts. The Done Right Promise covers the workmanship, and The Keystone Standard means both layers of your Therma-Tru warranty, if still active, get registered in writing before we leave the driveway.

DIY or Call Us?

There are two things you can check safely: whether the sweep is jammed up in its retainer channel, and whether the hinge screws are tight. If the sweep is hardened, that’s a replacement part, and forcing it is a waste of effort. If the hinge screws spin in place without tightening, the screw holes are stripped and the real fix requires pulling the door and scarfing in fresh wood or using through-bolts. That’s not a weekend job.

What you should not do is lift the slab off its hinges without help. A Therma-Tru Classic-Craft entry door weighs 100 to 180 pounds depending on size, and once it’s off the frame it wants to fall. We also see homeowners attempt hinge replacement with the wrong mortise depth, and the result is a slab that binds or won’t latch. If the door is dragging, sticking, or leaking, call us at (863) 334-2933 and we’ll measure it properly. The estimate is free, and we’ll show you exactly what’s wrong before any work begins.
